Dr Lysandra Katelaris Neurologist Castle Hill


Dr Lysandra Katelaris graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Honours degree in Medical Science.

She completed her Neurology Fellowship in Neurophysiology and Neuroimmunology at Westmead Hospital.

She is an adult Neurologist and diagnostic Neurophysiologist with special interests in headache, neuromuscular disorders, peripheral nerve disorders, epilepsy and Neuroimmunology, including Multiple Sclerosis.

She is trained in performing Botulinum toxin injections for a variety of conditions including migraine, hyperhidrosis and spasticity.

Lysandra is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists and the American Academy of Neurology and the Australia and New Zealand Headache society.

Dr Elizabeth McCusker is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology.

She is a consultant Neurologist at Castle Hill where she established a private practice in 1988. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney Medical School. She is a part-time Senior Staff Specialist in Neurology at Westmead Hospital in Sydney where she is involved in a long-standing clinical research and medication trials program and the specialist clinic of Huntington Disease.

She is a member of the Australian and NZ Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) and the Australian Headache and Movement Disorder Societies.

She a is past Director of the Huntington Disease Service based at Westmead hospital which incorporates comprehensive care from predictive genetic testing and multi-disciplinary outreach care through the course of the disease.

Her interests are in neurodegenerative diseases of the nervous system, dementia, Parkinson’s disease and Huntington disease, as well as neurological disease in later age groups and adults with developmental disabilities and in the headache disorders.
She has an ongoing interest in ethics in relation to genetic disorders and Neurological care.

Dr McCusker’s undergraduate degrees were at the University of Sydney with subsequent postgraduate training in Sydney at Sydney hospital including with Professor James McLeod as well as in the UK, NZ and comprehensive neurological training in the United States for 3 years at the Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester Upstate New York.

It was there that she developed her interest in Huntington disease but on return to Australia undertook the Case-Control Study of the Alzheimer disease when based at Concord Hospital as a research neurologist. She was appointed subsequently as a VMO in Neurology and Geriatrics and has been visiting Neurologist at Sydney Adventist, Ryde and Mt Druitt Hospitals.

Dr McCusker no longer provides inpatient hospital care.

Dr McCusker was awarded the Woman of the West Award in 2006 by the University of Western Sydney on International Women’s Day.
